Lanistia
Caeror’s former lover, blinded in the Academy accident, now Ulciscor’s ally and Vis’s tutor. The Aurora Columnae trigger a controlling voice in her, leading to imprisonment and a search for the system behind it.
Ulciscor
Vis’s patron in Res. His family’s connection to Synchronous travel and his reappearance among the iunctii complicate every account of Caeror’s fate.
Tara
Rónán’s daughter and Luceum’s finest young fighter. She recognizes Vis’s nasceann abilities and treats him as both ally and equal.
Lir
A druid who trains and tests Vis in Luceum. His loyalty is to what the Grove should be rather than to the faction controlling it.
King Cristoval
Vis’s father, restored after death through vitaerium. He gives Vis political truth, paternal forgiveness and finally his second life.
Netiqret
A Duatian mesektet who protects Ahmose and assists Vis. Her relationship with Kiya makes the Nomarch’s control personally devastating.
Ka
The apparent architect of Cataclysms and master of vast numbers of iunctii. His claim that sacrifice prevents greater annihilation becomes the book’s central moral problem.
